I have two reasons to be crafting lately: an upcoming show + a need to dwindle down my stash. And one reason why that’s easier said than done: an adventurous toddler that can reach very high onto my work space. Sigh.
But I’m happy to say that I have the opportunity to participate in this year’s Somerville Open Studios event taking place the weekend of May 4+5. SOS has always been my most favorite show to do because *so* many people come out to support local artists that weekend. I’ll be at the Armory building on Highland Avenue this year with a ton of other great artists. It’s from 12 to 6 pm each day that weekend, and there’s a parking lot behind the building. It’s location #62 on the map, and it’s also a trolley stop (how convenient!).
One thing that I’ve been working on are these felt pins in fun color combinations. I use felt in gorgeous, rich colors from Papertrey Ink and pair them up with buttons and embroidery floss. It’s a project that I can do a lot of prep work for in advance by cutting each felt piece out with a die cutting machine (one by one though – it does get tiring cranking it around and around!) and then work on stitching together while the little one sleeps or watches an episode of Daniel Tiger’s Neighborhood on TV (oh how I love thee, PBS!). I’ll also have some smaller barrettes and hair clips for sale at SOS.
And of course I’ll have some cards on hand too. These are harder to crank out but hopefully more of the ideas in my head (and idea books!) will come to fruition in time for SOS. Here are a couple of designs I recently put together. Stay tuned for more peeks at what I’ll have at my booth that weekend and be sure to mark your calendars! Other things brewing in my head include small knitted gift items and possible fabric pins. If only there was more free time during the day and I had an extra set of hands!
Be crafty! 🙂
